NSE Options Analysis — Frequently Asked Questions
How do I read the CE/PE options OI chart?
The chart plots Call (CE) and Put (PE) open interest by strike. High CE OI = resistance (call writers defending). High PE OI = support (put writers defending). These levels attract price near expiry as option writers delta-hedge to protect sold positions.
What is the difference between Daily and Gross metrics in options?
Daily Metrics show net session change. Gross Metrics (GROSS_ prefix) include all intraday transactions including squaroffs. High gross + low daily = intraday churning. High gross matching daily = strong overnight institutional conviction.
What does OI Change Per Trade mean?
OI_CHG_PR_VAL_PER_TRADE measures position-building intensity per transaction. A high positive value means large institutional blocks are being added, not just intraday churn. This is one of the best signals for identifying where smart money is entering options positions.
What is Max Strike Price (Max Pain) in NSE options?
Max Pain is the strike where the maximum number of option contracts (CE+PE combined) expire worthless, causing maximum loss to option buyers. Prices tend to gravitate here near expiry due to delta-hedging by institutions. Tracking its movement from week-start to expiry-Thursday is a widely used NSE F&O expiry strategy.
How to use Put-Call Ratio (PCR) from OI data?
PCR = Total PE OI ÷ Total CE OI. PCR > 1.0 = more put writing = bullish signal. PCR < 0.7 = more call writing = bearish signal. Extreme PCR readings often mark short-term reversal zones in Nifty and BankNifty options.
How does Nifty 50 options data compare to the Sensex option chain today?
While Nifty 50 options trade on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Sensex options trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Historically, nse option chain volumes for Nifty and BankNifty have been the highest in India.
However, traders look at both nse bse options chains to check for arbitrage or sentiment agreement.
Additionally, overnight moves in the sgx nifty / Gift Nifty or sgx live are reflected in how the Nifty 50 option chain open interest is written or covered during the pre-market session.
